The Performance We Never Auditioned For

Have you ever noticed how much energy it takes to be someone you are not?
Most of us have done it.
We change the way we speak depending on who is in the room. We try to appear more confident than we feel. At work we want to seem like we have everything under control. On social media we often share our highlights while quietly carrying our struggles behind the scenes.
I have caught myself doing it too. At some point, I understood that I was using more effort to uphold an image than to just be myself and accept who I was. I don't have it all together, I don't know all the answers, I don't always know what I should be doing. This is life, it's about exploring, learning, and growing not performing for others.
I wonder how often we perform because we believe it is what the world expects from us.
The interesting thing is that people are rarely drawn to perfection. They are drawn to authenticity. We connect with people who are genuine, who admit they do not have all the answers, and who are comfortable enough to simply be themselves.
There is something incredibly freeing about letting go of the performance. It creates space for deeper relationships, honest conversations, and a quieter mind.
This month, notice where you might be performing instead of simply living.
Let one conversation be completely genuine.
Admit when you do not know the answer.
Stop trying to impress and start trying to connect.
Remind yourself that who you are is already enough.
What would change if you stopped performing and simply allowed yourself to be seen?
