Communication Begins Before We Speak

When we think about communication, we usually think about words.
But words are only one small part of the conversation. Long before we speak, people notice our presence. They notice whether we seem rushed or calm. Whether we make eye contact.
Whether we appear interested or distracted. Whether our body language invites connection or quietly pushes people away.
I have become more aware of this in my own life. There have been moments when my words were kind, yet my hurried pace or distracted mind communicated something entirely different.
That realization challenged me.
How often are we saying one thing while our actions tell another story?
The older I get, the more I believe that less is often more. Fewer words. More listening. Fewer reactions. More curiosity. Fewer assumptions. More grace.
Our presence has a way of speaking before we ever open our mouths.
This month, pay attention to how you communicate without words.
Pause before responding.
Notice your tone and your facial expressions.
Put distractions aside during conversations.
Let your presence communicate that someone matters.
How would your relationships change if people felt heard before they ever remembered what you said?
